Q. How do I listen to the station?                                           Top

A.      Click the "Listen Live" button on the home page. Media Player will open and begin streaming.

Q. Can I listen in my car?                                                       Top

A.      That depends. Do you have an internet enabled mobile device with Windows Media Player Mobile or an iPhone?
If so, then connect it to your car just as you would your iPod (either through a cable or a mini-tranmitter). Soon cars will come with internet ready radios, so get one.
Otherwise, no. You're only going to find us online.

Q. Can I Listen through my home stereo?                              Top

A.      Absolutley. Just hook your computer to your system. Head down to Radio Shack and get the appropriate cable. Ask for a "Y-adaptor"--"8th-inch Stereo to RCA." If that sounds like a foreign language to you look at the image below to see what the cable looks like. Plug the "headphones-end" into your computer's green port or the line out. Plug the red and white end into the matching input of your stereo. Inputs labeled "AUX" are preferred but labels such as "Cassette" and "CD" are fine to plug into.

DO NOT plug into inputs labeled "Phono", "Turntable", or "Record Player." Plugging into these could damage your system.

Still confused? check out the diagram below.

Q. Do you know how many people are listening?                  Top

A.      Yes, and no.

We keep track of our internet traffic, and we get some pretty detailed information about general traffic and even individual users. But that doesn't tell us the stuff we really want to know - your listening preferences. We like to tailor the site to our listeners as best as we can, and the best way to do that is by looking at Windows Media Player statistics.

To see that stuff, though, Windows Media Player needs to notify our server that you've logged onto the stream. This feature might not be set on your computer. So, if you're interested in making the Growl a more enjoyable experience for yourself and people like you, here's what you need to do.

    1) Select "Options" from the "Tools" menu.

    2) Check "Send Unique Player ID to Content Providers" in the "Privacy" tab.

Now we'll know when you've tuned in, and you've made the world a better place. Be proud.

Q. What kind of music do you play?                                      Top

A.      Anything. Everything. We have no official format. Our database is updated and maintained through the collective efforts of our producers, listeners, and local artists. If you are interested in submitting music for inclusion in our database, please Contact Us.

Q. If I bring the Growl a CD, will you play it?                          Top

A.      We love to hear and play the music you want to hear. We are always happy to get new music suggestions from our listeners and the MSU campus. If you would like to donate a CD to the Growl for inclusion in our music database, please drop it by our studio on the campus of Missouri State University, in The Student Media Center, or by snail mail:

Q. How do I join the Growl?                                                  Top

A.      If you're an MSU student then it's as easy as 1,2,3:

  1. Attend a Meeting
  2. Pay dues
  3. Get Training
No, really, that's it. Well, there's some paperwork and other such fun activities... but we provide all our members with basic training, so special skills are't even necessary to join. Whether you want to host an on-air show, produce live local music, design web pages, promote, advertise, or whatever, you can do it at the Growl - the officers and staff are more than willing to show even the most inexperienced noob the ropes.

e-mail us for the next meeting time.

Q. What is the Growl's language and content policy?           Top

A.      The Growl is a college internet radio station, and as such we maintain a certain level of decorum as demanded by our campus community. We follow FCC guidelines for FM radio, as we are striving to obtain an FM license.

If you are offended by our content or programming, please contact us immediately with full details, including the day and time you were listening, which show, and specifically what you feel was inappropriate. Please include your name and contact information for a follow-up. Without the above information we will be unable to investigate the matter.

Q. I love the Growl. Would you like some money?                 Top

A.      If you support college and grassroots radio, and you would like to make a donation to the Growl, please make your checks payable to "The Growl" and mail to:
